Sreenidi Deccan FC take on Kolkata giants Mohammedan Sporting!

Sreenidi Deccan FC would be aiming to extend their winning streak in the I-League as they take on Mohammedan Sporting Club of Kolkata on Matchday 5 at the Deccan Arena in Hyderabad on Thursday. Victory over defending champions Gokulam Kerala FC last time made it three wins out of their first four games for the Deccan Warriors and they face a Mohammedan Sporting side who have recovered from losing their opening two games to win their next two.

Sreenidi Deccan FC head coach Carlos Vaz Pinto and Nigerian forward Louis Ogana addressed the media ahead of the clash. Vaz Pinto was pleased with the team’s recent defensive solidity but also with the balance in attack.

“Three points are always the most important but so are clean sheets as they tell us that the team is defending well,” he said. “Usually, the top teams in the league are the ones that defend well. But it is important for the team to show that they are creating chances as well so this balance between the offensive and defensive phase needs to be there for the team to grow.”

Louis Ogana scored six goals in his first season for Sreenidi Deccan FC last time out but the forward is not resting on his laurels.

“It was my first time in Asia last year so it was all about adaptation for me but I believe I have raised my game and I want to keep growing for the team,” he said.

Mohammedan Sporting Club finished as runners-up in the I-League last year and they were billed as pre-season favourites to win the championship.

“I am expecting a difficult game for us but also for them,” said Vaz Pinto. “They have a quality squad and their coach is familiar with his team, having been here last year. But it is a new day and a new match so we have to be prepared for different strategies.”

The match will kick off at 2pm IST and will be telecast live on DD Sports, Eurosport and the Discovery+ App.
