In great news for Indian football fans, it has now been officially confirmed that sports broadcaster Star Sports will telecast live the international friendly of the Senior Indian National Team against Caribbean islanders Puerto Rico at the Andheri Sports Complex in Mumbai on September 3, 2016.
In recent years Team India has been doing channel hopping depending on factors like central sale of TV rights of qualifiers like the 2018 FIFA World Cup which was shown on Sony Six or the rights of the 2019 AFC Asian Cup qualifiers against Laos with the home match shown on DD Sports.
But generally away matches like the one against Laos in the 2019 AFC Asian Cup qualifiers or the recent unofficial friendly against Bhutan were not shown on Indian television with the Bhutan match made available through an official livestream from Bhutan.
Now Star Sports together with the AIFF and their marketing partners IMG-Reliance will be organising the match broadcast and one can hope that they put an Indian Super League style and class telecast together with the right anchors, live commentators and experts.
The kick-off timing has not been officially announced, but 7pm looks likely as a standardized evening kick-off timing in Indian football.
