Tagnaout blazes trail with historic CAF Women’s Interclub Player of the Year award!

Midfield sensation Fatima Tagnaout etched her name into the history books on Monday, becoming the first Moroccan recipient of the 2023 CAF Women’s Interclub Player of the Year award.

The AS FAR winger beat fellow nominees Refilwe Tholakele of Botswana and South Africa’s Lebohang Ramalepe at a dazzling CAF awards ceremony in Marrakech.

Despite AS FAR failing to retain their CAF Women’s Champions League title, Tagnaout was a standout performer in Cote d’Ivoire last month.

Her speed, skill and scoring touch was evident as she netted a goal and created numerous chances for her teammates.

Tagnaout’s performances earned her a place in the Team of the Tournament – a testament to her consistent brilliance.

The Moroccan flyer has been a defender’s nightmare this year, with her electric pace on the ball striking fear into the hearts of backlines across the continent.

At just 24 years of age, the star has already represented Morocco at the senior level.

She was also part of Morocco’s 2023 World Cup squad in July and started all three games of the group stage.

But this new accolade will no doubt be the sweetest moment so far for the talented Tagnaout.

As the first Moroccan benefactor of the historic award, she has set a high bar for future aspiring African women footballers.
