The 2019 Norwegian Cup final in Oslo!

On Sunday, December 8, 2019; I attended the Norwegian Cup final in which Viking FK faced FK Haugesund at the Ullevaal Stadion in Oslo.

I had been invited by Viking FK from Stavanger to attend the match and here goes a big big thank you for the invitation!

I had visited Stavanger back in August as you might have seen on my social media with Viking FK looking at India and it’s football from different perspectives.

One of the numerous things that happened in 2019 is the trial and training of India winger Lallianzuala Chhangte though sadly no contract was signed.

On that Sunday in Oslo it was a surprise final for Viking FK, who had a memorable 2019 season after having gained promotion back to the Norwegian top tier Eliteserien in 2018, fisnihing fifth in the top tier in 2019 and if they could win the cup for the first time since 2001 they would make their season even more memorable.

The story of the match is quickly told. Both teams surprisingly reached the cup final and one could see the nervousness in both set of players. They did not want to commit a mistake and in the end a penalty goal by Viking captain Zlatko Tripic after a foul on him in the 51st minute was all that mattered.

A big big win for Viking FK, who aim for bigger things in the coming years!

The weekend in Oslo was very special with a cold Saturday, overnight snow on Sunday which turned Oslo into a freezing winter wonderland.

Getting to and from the stadium wasn’t the easiest as the stadium metro station had a walk way up which was frozen and on the way back the same problem, but the Norwegians cooly handled the difficulty and didn’t moan.

It all felt a little more simple than what I have seen in Germany and continental Europe in recent times.
