Turkish Football Federation submits bid book to host UEFA EURO 2024!

A Turkish Football Federation (TFF) delegation has visited UEFA’s headquarters in Nyon, Switzerland, to submit their bid book to host UEFA EURO 2024 on Thursday, April 26.

TFF President Yildirim Demirören handed over the bid documents to UEFA General Secretary Theodore Theodoridis at the House of European Football.

Other members of the TFF delegation included first Vice-President Servet Yardimci, Vice-President Ali Dürüst, board members Cengiz Zülfikaroglu, Alaattin Aykaç, Mustafa Çaglar, General Secretary Mr Kadir Kardas, and bid ambassador Baris Telli.

The Turkish national association submitted a declaration of interest to bid to host UEFA EURO 2024 in March 2017 and have now submitted their bid dossier ahead of the April 27 deadline.

TFF President Yildirim Demirören said, “We are pleased to present the Turkish bid to stage UEFA EURO 2024 to the UEFA General Secretary today. I am also delighted to announce that our federation, which is bidding for the fourth successive time, has prepared our best bid ever, with unprecedented state support. All guarantees are given without any reservations, including some additional and innovative guarantees that will ensure the financial success of the tournament – thereby benefitting all UEFA member associations. It’s now our time, and we are ready to share together with the whole of Europe.”

Servet Yardimci, TFF First Vice-President and UEFA Executive Committee Member, said, “It’s a historic day for Turkish football, and we are pleased to present our bid, which we believe is the best one. We were fully committed to our bid to host UEFA EURO 2016, which we submitted in 2010. Today, eight years later we have stepped up this commitment and are ready to deliver. Turkey is renowned for its determination and commitment, and It’s now time for Turkey to host it’s first-ever EURO tournament.”

Bid ambassador and Turkish Amputee national team player Baris Telli said, “The proudest moment in my life was wearing the national team jersey in front of 40,000 spectators in Istanbul when we were crowned champions of Europe. I want Turkish youngsters to dream of playing in a European championship like I did, and I believe that the time has come for Turkey to host a UEFA EURO. Apart from being an excellent bid, hosting the event will leave an amazing legacy in the region. As an amputee player, I was given my chance thanks to the excellent work of the TFF, and with UEFA EURO 2024, I believe that more people like myself will be given the opportunity to play football.”

UEFA’s General Secretary Theodore Theodoridis said, “We would like to thank the Turkish Football Federation for submitting their bid book for UEFA EURO 2024. We know that the TFF have invested a lot of resources in their bid to host UEFA’s showcase national team competition, and I believe it will be a tough decision for the UEFA Executive Committee to make in September.”

The German Football Association (DFB) also officially submitted their bid book to UEFA earlier this week.

In the upcoming weeks, the UEFA administration will start evaluating the final bid dossiers. During this evaluation phase, bidders may be required by UEFA to elaborate upon and substantiate their bids as described in their bid dossiers. As part of its transparent bidding process UEFA will then prepare a written evaluation report on each bid by September 2018.

On September 27, 2018, the UEFA Executive Committee will meet in Nyon to vote on who has won the right to host UEFA EURO 2024 in Nyon.
