In a thrilling encounter played at the Kalyani Stadium in Kolkata, the Salgaocar FC U-18s scored a close 3-2 win over Royal Wahingdoh FC in their opening Group A fixture of the U-18 I-League.
It was a one sided affair in the first half when Salgaocar FC took the lead in the 14th minute through a curling shot from Shayne Rodrigues just outside the box. Devendra Murgaocar was brought down inside the box in the 35th minute and young sensation Liston Colaco took up the responsibility of the spot kick and beat the Northeastern keeper with a placed shot. The first half ended 2-0 in favour of Salgaocar FC.
But the second half was all together a different match to watch. Royal Wahingdoh FC came from behind to reduce the deficit in the 60th minute through a free kick and equalised in the 75th minute as the scoreboard then read 2-2.
In the 85th minute Devendra Murgaocar guided the ball into the back of the nets to give the Goan Greens again the lead from a Shayne Rodrigues cross. The match ended 3-2 on favour of Salgaocar FC!
