U-18 Youth League: RoundGlass Sports earn hard-fought draw against Youth FC!

RoundGlass Sports maintained their unbeaten streak in the AIFF U-18 Youth League after earning a hard-fought 2-2 draw against Youth Football Club, Rurka Kalan, at the Singhpura Road Stadium, Kurali.

Coming into their second game of the Punjab Zone, the home team enjoyed partisan support of their fans who packed the stands. Just as RoundGlass Sports boys were settling down into a rhythm and started dominating ball possession, YFC forward, Ajay Kumar latched on to a defensive error to find the back of the net in the 9th minute, much to the shock of the home team’s fans.

Despite the early setback, RoundGlass Sports maintained the pace of their play, making several deep runs down the flanks and even created a few of scoring opportunities. It was against this run of play that YFC struck again when Arshdeep Singh slotted the second goal in the 17th minute.

At this stage, RoundGlass Sports U-18 coach, Devan Daniel, made a tactical change by substituting defender Aniket Kumar with midfielder Satpal Singh in the 25th minute. Though, RoundGlass Sports dictated the flow of the game, they were not able to reduce the deficit till the half-time.

In the second half, RoundGlass Sports started showing more urgency and looked a much better organised side. They started putting pressure on YFC with deep probing runs. Finally, in the 65th minute, Satpal scored a stunning goal to pull one back. With the score line reading 1-2, the home team boys found greater purpose with some clever ball play. Faced with unrelenting pressure, YCF cracked when their defender Amritpal Singh conceded an own goal in the 75th minute to level the scores 2-2.

Talking about today’s game, RoundGlass Sports coach Devan Daniel said: “In football, you can play a good game yet concede goals. That’s what happened today in the first half. In the second half we made a few changes. It worked for us and we had some good passes going. But more importantly, I am happy with the way our players fought back in the second half after being two goals down.”
