UEFA joins LEGENDS to preserve football history!

UEFA has become part of LEGENDS, the world’s largest football collection project, set in the heart of Madrid.

The museum in Madrid’s famous Puerta del Sol consists of more than 600 unique and authenticated pieces from one of the most important collections of world football assets in history, including match worn shirts from almost every significant game ever played. This collection – which covers over 100 years of football history – consists of memorabilia from the international competitions of UEFA, CONMEBOL, FIFA and the Olympic Games, as well as national competitions such as LaLiga.

UEFA is supporting this unique and pioneering initiative that safeguards important elements of the history of football on a global scale, while giving museum visitors unique access to artefacts dating back to more than hundred years.

UEFA President Aleksander Čeferin said: “This unique concept was developed to preserve and showcase football’s cultural heritage, allowing us to connect with our game’s past, understand different eras and rivalries, and appreciate the fact that football is, in its essence, a form of art. UEFA is delighted to team up with LEGENDS on this captivating and unforgettable journey through the history of football.”

Marcelo Ordás, president of LEGENDS, stated: “It is wonderful that an institution such as UEFA has decided to be part of the stewardship and conservation of world football heritage. Together we will make the LEGENDS experience one of the most moving for visitors from all over the world.”

In addition to the museum in the Spanish capital, new locations across Europe and beyond are planned in the coming years, showcasing football memorabilia from the LEGENDS collection.

The ultimate aim is to bring football fans closer to the history of the sport, which has been captivating communities across the world since its inception.
