VfL Bochum 1848 works with FUSSBALL KANN MEHR (FOOTBALL CAN DO MORE), The non-profit network organization campaigns for gender equality and more diversity in football. It offers concrete support for women in football and offers for clubs, associations, companies and institutions that consider it necessary to promote women and diversity in sport.
VfL Bochum 1848 is committed to the values of sport. These include tolerance, fair play, solidarity and equality. This has been stated in the club’s mission statement since 2007. The VfL would like to continuously advance its diversity efforts. Only recently, the existing cooperation in the area of sustainability with Bochum University of Applied Sciences was expanded to include the topics of human resources and diversity. Now VfL is taking the next step in terms of the club’s sustainable development and is gaining another strong companion for more diversity at its side with FUSSBALL KANN MEHR.
“We are currently developing a diversity strategy, which in turn is part of our sustainability strategy. In this context, we have already derived goals and measures. We want to use the strength of diversity to position ourselves optimally for the future. In this topic area, too, there must again be VfL solutions that fit the club and are authentic. We are pleased that with FUSSBALL KANN MEHR we now have another strong partner at our side,” said Ilja Kaenzig, spokesman for the management of VfL Bochum 1848, commenting on the agreed partnership.

The club is thus making a clear commitment to the promotion of women and contributing to more diversity in soccer. We are looking forward to working together, because together we can make an even bigger difference.”
To kick off the work, a joint format is currently being developed on the topics of “New Work and Equal Opportunity.” In addition, further concrete offers for VfL employees are being planned. In addition to VfL Bochum 1848, Werder Bremen, Eintracht Frankfurt, VfB Stuttgart and Hertha BSC as well as the media company Sky are already cooperating with FUSSBALL KANN MEHR.
In the materiality analysis carried out at VfL Bochum 1848 in June 2022, “standing up for diversity, in particular equal opportunities, inclusion and anti-discrimination” was identified as a focus topic. The development of a diversity strategy in conjunction with the partnership with FUSSBALL KANN MEHR is a logical next step in this regard.
