VfL Wolfsburg appoint Florian Kohfeldt as new head coach!

Florian Kohfeldt is VfL Wolfsburg’s new head coach. The 39-year-old, who agreed a contract until 2023 with the VfL board on Tuesday, will take charge of training for the first time on Thursday. Kohfeldt’s last job was head coach of SV Werder Bremen (from 2017 until May 16, 2021), where he previously worked as assistant coach.

Kohfeldt will be officially unveiled on Thursday as part of the press conference ahead of the game at Bayer 04 Leverkusen on October 30 (kick-off 15:30 CEST).

“We’ve held many talks in the past few hours and came up with a shortlist of possible candidates,” said VfL sporting director Marcel Schäfer. “We’re pleased that we’ve been able to reach an agreement with Florian Kohfeldt and are convinced he can identify with our approach and that we’ll return to winning ways together.”

Kohfeldt himself is relishing the return to the Bundesliga. “I didn’t have to think twice about accepting this challenge,” he said. “It’s an exciting challenge which I’m really looking forward to. Above all, I’ll use the short time until the next game to hold lots of talks and get an initial overview. There’s a lot of quality and dynamism in this team and we’re now going to work together to bring that back onto the pitch.”
