VfL Wolfsburg training camp and meeting Freddie Ljungberg again!

German Bundesliga side VfL Wolfsburg kicked-off their second summer training camp ahead of the 2017/18 Bundesliga season at the Hotel-Residence Klosterpforte in Marienfeld, Germany on Monday, July 24.

My colleague Chris Punnakkattu and I had the opportunity to attend the afternoon training session yesterday, July 25 to get a first-hand look at the new squad and their preparations for the new campaign.

The team had an intense afternoon training session in really tough weather conditions which could be described as a “German monsoon” with heavy rain showers and gusty winds.

Head coach Andries Jonker, his assistant coaches Fredrik Ljungberg and Uwe Speidel and other members of the coaching staff put the squad through the paces in front of 15 to 20 fans who braved the weather in all its forms.

We also caught up with Arsenal FC and Sweden legend Freddie Ljungberg after the training session for a great chat on VfL Wolfsburg, the Bundesliga, Indian football and of course about my time together with Freddie at Mumbai City FC in the Indian Super League – Season 1.

Please click through the pictures on my Facebook page to enjoy a few impressions of our visit to the Klosterpforte…
