In a match-up of the double Indian Super League champions, ATK defeated current champions Chennaiyin FC 2-1 at the Saltlake Stadium on Friday evening.
ATK were quickly off the block as striker Kalu Uche scored in only the 3rd minute after a Karanjit Singh clearance for Chennaiyin FC was headed forward by Gerson Vieira and Kalu juts had to beat Karanjit to score.
After chances at both ends, ATK got a free-kick in the 13th minute which Manuel Lanzarote put into the box and John Johnson headed into the goal to give ATK an early 2-0 lead.
But Chennaiyin FC weren’t beaten just yet as Carlos Salom scored for the visitors with a great header off a Francis Fernandes cross to make it 2-1.
It stayed that way at the break despite chances at both ends.
Things continued the sam way for both teams after the early goals, so in the end ATK won 2-1 againt Chennaiyin FC.
ATK have another home match on October 31 against Bengaluru FC, while Chennaiyin FC host Mumbai City FC on November 3.
