The first Asian Football Confederation (AFC) Coach Education Focus Group Session delivered an engaging programme which focused on the delivery of the Pro Diploma coaching course on Tuesday.
Designed for Benchmarking Member Associations (MAs), the meeting welcomed 80 participants from across the Continent. It started with open questions to participants to reflect on their current challenges and what is required when implementing a coaching course.
With the aim to increase the quality of coach education at the professional level, the Session invited the Chinese Football Association (CFA) Coach Instructor Isecke Lars to present their various coaching models.
The Macau Football Association (AFM) Technical Director Iong Cho Ieng said: “The educational session covered a wide range of areas of coaching in modern football. It also highlighted the importance of establishing a comprehensive Pro Diploma coach education system in our MAs.”
“We are all aware that coach education is a long-term task, but we will eventually achieve our goals as long as we are on the right path.”
Participants also gained valuable insights from another informative presentation – the Pro License in the Netherlands – by the AFC Principal Coaching Consultant and the Royal Dutch Football Association (KNVB) Pro-Level Coach Educator Wim Koevermans.
The Bangladesh Football Federation (BFF) Technical Director Paul Thomas Smalley added, “The AFC Coaching Convention has raised the standards of coach education throughout Bangladesh and the BFF is determined to upgrade its status from Level A to Pro. Our sincere appreciation goes out to the AFC for giving us guidance on how to achieve this.”
“We also learnt a lot from the CFA and KNVB. It was a good opportunity to learn from others and try to apply the best practices in our MA.”
The Implementation of the AFC C Diploma and coach tutors are among the key topics to be introduced in the upcoming Focus Group Session for Growing MAs, which will be held on May 27.
