The Asian Football Confederation (AFC) Coach Education Panel convened on Tuesday to chart the way forward for enhancing coach education standards across the Continent.
Chaired by AFC Technical Director Andy Roxburgh, the virtual meeting saw AFC Coach Education Panel members engage in dynamic discussions, with a special focus on the latest developments in the AFC Coaching Convention, as well as the objectives for 2027.
Following Roxburgh’s opening remarks, the panellists received an update on the latest developments under the acclaimed AFC Coaching Convention, which currently comprises 44 endorsed Member Associations across the Pro, A and B levels.
The attention then shifted towards the contents of the 2027 AFC Coaching Convention Regulations, which will introduce several significant additions, including dedicated pathways for Futsal, Fitness and Development Coaches, alongside an enhanced assessment process.
The Panel also examined ways to incorporate the Fitness B and A Diplomas into the AFC Coaching Convention, with the proposed framework aimed at ensuring the Fitness Coach pathway is tailored to the Asian landscape.
In one of the key highlights of the meeting, the participants were briefed on the latest developments in the Confederation’s ongoing efforts to align its quality standards with those mutually agreed with UEFA, to increase opportunities for coaches in Asia to maximise their potential.
Furthermore, the Panel discussed the refined assessment guidelines, which outline best practices for assessors to follow when evaluating candidates, while placing emphasis on objective feedback, detailed records and impartiality.
The meeting concluded with the participants setting immediate goals for the near future, including expanding the AFC Coaching Convention’s membership and increasing Pro-level membership, while also looking ahead to the release of the 2027 AFC Coaching Convention Regulations.
Founded on a collective ambition to elevate coaching capabilities across the Continent, the AFC Coach Education Panel Meeting was yet another instance of the AFC’s steadfast commitment to making football the number one sport in Asia.
