AFC President congratulates Al Hilal on setting new world record!

Asian Football Confederation (AFC) President Shaikh Salman bin Ebrahim Al Khalifa has lauded Al Hilal SFC on breaking the world record for most consecutive wins by a top-flight team on Tuesday, March 12.

The Saudi Arabian side clinched their 28th straight win when they defeated rivals Al Ittihad 2-0 in the second leg of the AFC Champions League™ 2023/24 Quarter-finals at the King Abdullah Sports City in Jeddah.

The win which saw the Blue Waves surpass Welsh side The New Saints’ 2016 record of an unbeaten streak of 27 matches, also secured their spot in the Semi-finals of the Continent’s premier club competition.

Hailing the achievement, the AFC President said: “Al Hilal SFC’s impressive journey to their 28th consecutive victory has been nothing short of inspiring. As one of the giants of Asian club football, Al Hilal have always managed to demonstrate excellent resolve and remained steadfast in their pursuit to fly the Confederation’s flag high on the biggest stages in the world.

“I wish to extend my heartiest congratulations to all the players, coaching staff, and every individual whose hard work has contributed to the consistent success of the club.”

Currently in pole position in the Saudi Pro League, the Jorge Jesus-led side has won every game since a 1-1 draw with league rivals Damac FC in September 2023.

“Moreover, setting a new benchmark in world football at the Quarter-finals of the AFC Champions League™ is a testament to the high standards of the beautiful game in the Kingdom, of which the Saudi Arabian Football Federation ought to be proud.

“Al Hilal’s achievement is yet another instance of the AFC’s commitment to ensure that Asian players and teams continue to shine on the global stage and, with the rapid progress made by teams across the Continent just in the last few years, I have no doubt that many such milestones await us on the horizon,” added Shaikh Salman.
