ATK Mohun Bagan beat SC East Bengal in ISL’s first-ever Kolkata derby!

The Indian Super League tonight witnessed its first-ever Kolkata derby in which defending champions ATK Mohun Bagan defeated archrivals SC East Bengal at the Tilak Maidan, Vasco on Friday night.

Both sides showed early intent with ATK Mohun Bagan Prabir Das causing some problems on the right wing to the SC East Bengal defence, while the red and gold had opportunities through Anthony Pilkington, Jacques Maghoma and Balwant Singh.

But the chance of the first session fell to Javi Hernandez in the 36th minute but his shot from inside the box led to a top save by keeper Debjit Majumder.

At the break it was goalless between SC East Bengal and ATK Mohun Bagan.

But things changed after the restart. In the 49th minute the ball fell to Fiji captain Roy Krishna and his shot went in under keeper Debjit to give the Mariners the lead.

ATK Mohun Bagan thereafter pulled back, gave SC East Bengal space and they had their chances, the best being a long-ranger from Anthony Pilkington which keeper Arindam Bhattacharya somehow kept out.

While SC East Bengal moved up, ATK Mohun Bagan sealed the three points when substitute Manvir Singh single-handedly in a counter-attack scored to double the lead.

The match ended with ATK Mohun Bagan beating their rivals SC East Bengal 2-0.
