Audi help Bayern Munich go electric!

Bayern Munich proved they are in electric form on Friday evening when they beat Schalke 04 with a tremendous performance, and now the reigning treble winners are also electric when they travel – becoming the first football club internationally to go electric. Manuel Neuer & Co. picked up their Audi e-tron models in Munich on Saturday, September 19.

More than just an ordinary sponsorship

“It’s a great thing that FC Bayern, together with Audi, are now the first club globally to use electric cars,” FC Bayern München AG CEO Karl-Heinz Rummenigge, said. “The electrification of our car fleet with the Audi e-tron and the fitting of our training ground with charging points are good examples of the fact that the partnership between Audi and FC Bayern is far more than just a normal sponsorship.”

FCB fleet protecting the environment

In January, FCB and Audi extended their partnership until 2029. Among other things on the agenda: a strategic partnership on innovative marketing concepts and going electric. With a total of 19 Audi e-trons delivered to the players, more than half of FC Bayern’s Audi fleet is now electric.

The path to the future

Premium sustainable motoring is the focus of Audi’s strategic plan. “Together with FC Bayern, we are leading the way and, with the delivery of 19 Audi e-trons, setting an example for the path into an electric future,” said Hildegard Wortmann, Member of the Board of Management for Sales and Marketing at AUDI AG. She handed over the new company cars together with her colleague on the Board of Management Sabine Maaßen, responsible for Human Resources and Organisation.

Handover at Munich Airport

As a consequence of coronavirus, the 2020 car handover did not take place at the Audi Piazza in Ingolstadt. In recent years, this date has been a highlight of the year, especially for Audi employees. Head of Human Resources Maaßen said: “I am pleased that at least a small delegation of our apprentices could be present at this year’s handover to FC Bayern. After all, strong brands depend on passion and enthusiasm – and ultimately it is always people behind the scenes who make brands strong.”

Head coach Hansi Flick and the players headed by captain Neuer and top goalscorer Robert Lewandowski picked up their cars at the Audi training site at Munich Airport. After a short introduction to the digital features of the e-tron, the Champions League winners immediately enjoyed an Audi driving experience in their new motors.
