Bengaluru FC stage comeback to post 2-1 win over Chennaiyin FC!

Bengaluru FC came from behind to win 2-1 against Chennaiyin FC, in their third Group C encounter in the 2nd Division League at the Bangalore Football Stadium on Thursday.

Goals from Satendra Singh (45+4′) and Damaitphang Lyngdoh (55′) cancelled out Chennaiyan FC’s early opener through Gulab Rauth (13′), as a result of which, the Blue Colts maintain their unbeaten start to the campaign.

Ahead of the game, Head Coach Kaizad Ambapardiwala made three changes to the eleven who started in the 1-1 draw against Golden Threads FC, last Friday. Goalkeeper Dipesh Chauhan along with Shreyas Ketkar and Satendra Singh, started for the Blue Colts, replacing Lara Sharma, Lalhmingchhuanga and Kamalesh Palanisamy.

The game started in a lively manner, with both teams creating good chances and coming close on goal on quite a few occasions. It would be the away side who would draw first blood when an innocuous-looking shot from Gulab Rauth slipped through Dipesh’s gloves to trickle into the net and give Chennaiyin the lead.

Ambapardiwala’s side were trailing in a game for the first time this season and threw everything at the Marina Machans in their quest to get an equalizer. Eventually, they got their reward, just before the half-time whistle, when Thoi Singh found the run of Satendra Singh with a precise through ball for the latter to score and restore parity in the game.

Having gotten themselves back in the encounter, the Blue Colts had their tails up and started the second half on an energetic note. Their energy and incisiveness in attack paid dividends ten minutes after the restart, as Lyngdoh put Bengaluru ahead. The midfielder picked up the loose ball at the edge of the box, following a headed clearance and scored from a delightful curling effort which flew into the top right-hand corner, giving Chennaiyin goalkeeper Mohanraj no chance to save the shot.

Ambapardiwala brought on Harsh Patre and Kamalesh in order to consolidate his side’s hard-earned lead as the Blues showcased sturdiness in defence and good game management to thwart any advances made by the Marina Machans.

As a result of the win, Bengaluru FC posted their second win in three games and are currently in second place, level on points (7) with table toppers Golden Threads FC, and only behind on goal difference.

The Blue Colts will next face RKM FC on Friday, March 31 with kick-off scheduled for 4pm.
