Bundesliga: Bayern Munich sign Colombia’s James Rodriguez on loan from Real Madrid!

In one of the biggest signings of the summer transfer window, German Bundesliga champions FC Bayern Munich have signed Colombia captain James Rodriguez on loan from Real Madrid.

James Rodriguez was expected to leave Real Madrid after a frustrating time under manager Zinedine Zidane with the English Premier League his likely destination with interest from Manchester United and Chelsea, but in the end he decided to rejoin his former manager Carlo Ancelotti.

The two clubs have agreed a two-year loan deal until June 30, 2019 for a fee of 10 million Euros with the option for FC Bayern München to buy the player after that for 35 million Euros. James Rodríguez will sign his contract in Munich once the obligatory medical has been successfully completed.

The 25 year-old midfielder was the top scorer at the 2014 FIFA World Cup in Brazil with six goals, after which he moved from AS Monaco to Real Madrid. In the last three years, he’s won the UEFA Champions League and FIFA Club World Cup twice as well as La Liga once. In total he made 111 competitive appearances for Real, scoring 36 goals and giving 41 assists.

“We’re delighted we’ve been able to complete this transfer. Signing James Rodríguez was our coach Carlo Ancelotti’s biggest wish, following their successful spell working together in Madrid,” commented FC Bayern München AG chairman Karl-Heinz Rummenigge. “James is a very versatile player. He’s a goalscorer himself, he sets up a lot of goals and on top of that he’s great from set-pieces. There’s no question that this transfer further increases the quality in our team.”

James Rodríguez will be a member of the FC Bayern squad that sets off on Sunday, July 16 evening for the 12-day Audi Summer Tour to China and Singapore.
