Calendar for the 2022-23 season: Bundesliga to start on August 5!

The calendar for the 2022-23 season has been announced: According to the schedule adopted today by the Presidential Board of the German Football Association (DFB), the Bundesliga will start on August 5, 2022, with Bundesliga 2 kicking off three weeks earlier on July 15, 2022.

The calendar for 2022-23 had to take into account the scheduling of the 2022 FIFA World Cup in Qatar, which will take place from November 21 to December 18, 2022. This means there will be a domestic break of around two months in the winter, with the last matchdays of the calendar year in the Bundesliga (Matchday 15) and Bundesliga 2 (Matchday 17) taking place on the weekend of November 11-13, 2022. Following the World Cup and the subsequent winter break, Bundesliga matches will resume on January 20, 2023, with Bundesliga 2 kicking off again on January 27, 2023.

Matchday 34 – the final matchday of the 2022-23 Bundesliga season – is scheduled for Saturday May 27, 2023. Matchday 34 of Bundesliga 2 will take place one day later, on May 28, 2023.

The first matches in the DFB-Pokal will be held between July 29 and August 1, 2022. The German Supercup 2022, which pits the Bundesliga champions against the DFB-Pokal winners from the previous season, will take place the same weekend, on Saturday 30 July. Accordingly, the first-round matches of the DFB-Pokal which feature the Supercup participants have been scheduled for August 30/31, 2022.

The second round of the DFB-Pokal will follow on October 18/19, 2022, the third round will take place on January 31 – February 1 and February 7/8, 2023, and the quarterfinals are scheduled for April 4/5, 2023. The semifinals will be held on May 2/3, 2023. The DFB-Pokal final will take place on June 3, 2023.
