Delhi FC maintain top spot in Delhi Premier League as they cruise to 2-0 win against Friends United FC!

On the back of a 1-0 win against Uttarakhand FC, Delhi FC arrived at the Ambedkar Stadium to play their third game in the Delhi Premier League against Friends United FC.

Delhi FC fashioned their first half chance of the game when Arthur Kouassi received the ball 25 yards from goal. The striker turned his man and whipped his left boot through the ball, but didn’t quite get the connection he was looking for and the shot went wide.

Delhi FC were getting into their rhythm and opened up the Friends United defence once again with a well-worked move from midfield. It consisted of five passes and ended in a good-looking cross as Kouassi was inches away from getting a telling touch, but the keeper intervened.

Ranjit Bajaj’s team then piled on more pressure and were rewarded for it when a drilled in cross found the feet of Kouassi again, who, this time, was able to get to the ball ahead of the defender, who tripped the striker. Delhi FC won a penalty.

17-year-old striker Himanshu Jangra stepped up to take it. His long runup and stutter were enough to bamboozle the goalkeeper, who saw the ball being passed into the net with impudent ease but could do nothing about it.

Delhi FC went into half-time with a 1-0 lead.

Proceedings in the second half began with Delhi FC controlling possession. Friends United then had a rare shot at goal. It came from a free-kick, but James Kithan made a fantastic save, diving to his right to keep it out.

Goalscorer Himanshu Jangra then got into the action, as he received the ball down the right and dribbled past two players to get his shot off with his left, but it went well over the bar.

As Friends United tried pushing for an equalizer late on, Delhi FC hit them on the break. Nikhil Mali was released with a ball over the top as he dribbled past his man and laid it on a plate for Dipanda Dicka to tap it in.

That wrapped up a comfortable outing for Delhi FC, who registered their third successive win in the Delhi premier league. They now play their next game on December 19 against Indian Air Force.
