East Bengal FC have announced the signing of attacking midfielder Victor Vazquez for the remainder of the 2023/24 season.
Victor Vazquez said, “I am very happy to join East Bengal. I have heard about the illustrious history of the club and the incredible passion of the fans from Coach Carles and Coach Dimas. I am excited to make my mark in Indian football and contribute to this iconic club’s success. Joy East Bengal!”
37 year old Víctor Vázquez Solsona, who was born in Barcelona, in his youth played for FC Martinenc and CF Damm befor joining the renowned La Masia of FC Barcelona as team mates of Lionel Messi, Cesc Fàbregas and Gerard Piqué.
At FC Barcelona, he would go on to play for the ‘C’ and ‘B’ teams before heading to the first team but under Pep Guardiola, he would only play one LaLiga and UEFA Champions League match.
Victor Vazquez then moved to Belgium to join Club Brügge, where he spend four successful seasons.
Thereafter he played for CF Cruz Azul in Mexico, Toronto FC in the MLS, Al-Arabi and Umm Salal in the Qatar Stars League, KAS Eupen in Belgium before moving back to North America with MLS side LA Galaxy.
Last season (year), Victor Vazquez returned to Toronto FC and made 12 appearances in the MLS.
East Bengal FC head coach Carles Cuadrat said, “Victor is a product of FC Barcelona’s style of football. He is a player from the generation of Lionel Messi,Gerard Piqué and Cesc Fabregas. His creativity in the midfield will offer many moments of joy and brilliance to the East Bengal supporters.”
“He is accustomed to playing on the big stage, having played in the UEFA Champions League before and we believe that he will shine in the ISL too.”
