Former Delhi state football captain and national referee Syed Nasir Hasan passed away yesterday, January 29 in the afternoon at his residence in the walled city after a brief illness according to the Delhi Soccer Association.
Hasan was 73 years old and left behind his wife, two married sons amongst them former Delhi state captain retired Delhi Police ACP Shakir Hassan.
He started his football carrier in the sixties and did his schooling with renowned Anlo Arbic School and graduated from Delhi College.
He was one of the best defenders Delhi has ever produced. He was a regular at famous walled-city clubs City Club and Indian National FC in the Delhi Football League. He represented the Delhi state senior team in the National Football Championship for Santosh Trophy in 1973. He was a regular playing member of the Delhi School team, All India University team and his departmental Delhi Audit team.
His contempories were Mohammed Manzoor, Mohammed Aslam, Mohammed Iqbal, Yakub, Aziz Qureshi, Mohammed Ahmed, Dev Raj Katyal, Umesh Sood, Syed Nasir Ali, Maqbool Ahmed, Mohammed Ahmed and others.
He was buried this morning at a Qabiistan situated near the Indian Express Building. A large number of former and current footballers attended his funeral and paid their tributes.
The All India Football Federation executive committee member and Delhi Soccer Association president Subhash Chopra besides the DSA managing committee express their deep condolences over his untimely death.
