Germany’s DFB awards new international media rights to the German Cup!

Since the end of 2020, Germany’s DFB has been marketing the media rights to the DFB Cup on its own. Following the award of the first international media rights at the beginning of 2022, the DFB can now announce further deals for the licensing period beginning with the 2022/23 season.

With DMI and its free TV channel Dubai Sports Channel, DFB GmbH & Co. KG has succeeded in gaining a new, pan-regional partner in the Middle East and North Africa. Dubai Sports Channel is free-to-air for more than 43 million households and over 170 million viewers. In the 24-country cooperation, at least 25 matches per season will be shown live on linear TV, while the remaining games and highlights will be broadcast via various regional channels and digital platforms.

In addition, ten games per season will be produced in UHD quality in the coming licensing period. In China, CCTV secured this package for linear TV with nationwide coverage.

No extension with Russian Match TV

In addition, the DFB was able to extend a number of existing partnerships, such as Hong Kong Cable Television Limited, Measat Astro (Malaysia), Charlton (Israel), Ziggo (Netherlands), Premier Sports (UK & Ireland) as well as new partners such as Kompas TV (Indonesia), Coupang (South Korea), M+ (Macau) and Sky Italia. Furthermore, the contract with DAZN in Japan could be extended and extended to include Canada. In addition to the extension in Belgium in the future, the agreement with Eleven Sports also includes Portugal. The existing partnership with Saran Media Group has been expanded to include Turkey and all CIS countries.

Furthermore, the Supervisory Board and Shareholders’ Meeting of DFB GmbH & Co. KG unanimously decided not to conclude a new media rights agreement for the DFB Cup in Russia with Match TV (Gazprom Media) due to the current political situation, whose contract expired at the end of the 2021/22 season.

The DFB-Pokal starts its 80th season tonight.
