Sporting Clube de Goa continued their fine run in the Goa Pro League as they beat Vasco SC 5-0 at the Duler Stadium in Mapusa on Friday afternoon. Joseph Pereira (32’), Victorino Fernandes (35’ & 64’), Glan Martins (39’) & Francis Dadzie (54’) got onto the scoresheet for the Flaming Oranje.
Sporting Goa Gaffer Mateus Costa made three changes to the starting line up which won against SCC Cavelossim. Kamaljit Singh made his first appearance of the season between the sticks as he replaced Ravi Kumar while Abhishek Rawat and Ganesh Thakur made way for Joseph Pereira and Victorino Fernandes. The gaffer played a 4–4–2 formation with Francis & Victorino in front.
Sporting Goa played flawless football right from the start putting Vasco on the back foot early in the match. Within 5 minutes of the kick-off Victorino and Joseph made two dangerous back to back crosses trying to find the Ghanaian counterpart who marginally missed out on both occasions. In the 9th minute Francis got hold of a ball and struck it from about 30 yards off missing the target narrowly. Sporting found the nets finally in the 32nd minute when Victorino initiated a good move in the mid to find Joseph timing his run perfectly from the left to slot home the first goal for Sporting Goa. Vasco tried to respond with some counter attack from either flanks but Frank Kouassi missed out on their best opportunity. Sporting Goa struck again in the 35th minute this time Victorino himself getting into the party with a 30 yards screamer. Less than four minutes later Glan made it 3-0 with a brilliantly placed shot from the edge of the box to put Sporting Goa in a commanding position. Vasco SC tried hard to get back in the game but their two attempts from Frank and Kingslee were seen off by a vigilant Sporting Goa defence. The score stayed 3–0 at the break.
Crossing over it was all Sporting Goa and with the introduction of Cajetan Fernandes and Seriton Fernandes in the second half made things even more smoother for the Panaji based side. Seriton linked up with Francis and Victorino to create numerous chances. In the 54th minute a Vasco defender gifted Sporting Goa a penalty when he handled the ball inside the box, Francis Dadzie who stepped up made no mistake sending the Vasco keeper wrong way to make it 4-0. Soon in the 64th minute Dadzie made a fantastic run followed by a selfless assist when he saw Victorino in a slightly better position, the latter made the most of this opportunity making it 5–0. The Ghanaian forward could have easily added at least two more towards the end of the second half as he missed the opportunities from a hand shaking distance.
With this win Sporting Goa have collected 14 points from six matches and climb up into second spot in the GPL table.
