Häfele PIFA Webinar 1-3: A Coach’s perspective on Indian Women’s Football!

Häfele presented the webinar was powered by PIFA Foundation for the Benefit of Sports and moderated by Anjali Shah – AIFF ExCo and AIFF Womens Committee member.

A informative session with the top women’s coaches on the panel kicked off with Senior Indian Women’s team coach Maymol Rocky.

She credited the Women’s team recent success to the improvement of training, exposure tours being given to them by AIFF. She stressed the need for more women to get into coaching.

Swedish coach Thomas Dennerby currently coaching the India U-17 Womens team shared his immense experience of coaching in Sweden and Nigeria and made a presentation on what it takes to become an Elite player for the Under-17 team.

We then had a surprise guest AIFF technical director Savio Madeira, he enlightened us about the AIFF/AFC coaching education program and how women can be mentored to take higher positions. With regard to IWL he recommends each club should have a couple of good quality foreign Asian/Australian players to help raise the standards of Women’s football.

Finally, we spoke to USA Pro Coach and Instructor Mike Dickey, who is closely associated with US Women’s Soccer, ex-Coach of the USA U-17 Women and Jordan Senior Women’s Team. it was early morning for him.

He gave us an overview of the roadmap from grassroots to Elite soccer in USA. There are only 9 teams in the NWSL and with a strong grassroot system it make the US women’s soccer team formidable world champions.

An insightful discussion. It is imperative that Indian girls start young, play lots of matches, more training hours under qualified coaches, communicate English or Hindi, are some of the points that came out.
