Head coach Bobby Smyrniotis extends at Forge FC, also named Sporting Director!

Forge FC announced on Monday, May 1 that the club has signed Bobby Smyrniotis to a four-year contract extension with an expanded role as the Head Coach & Sporting Director of Forge FC.

“Bobby has established himself as one of the brightest tactical minds in CONCACAF soccer over the last four years and what he has accomplished in the CPL since its inception has been phenomenal,” said Hamilton Sports Group Managing Partner & CEO Scott Mitchell. “We are thrilled to announce this contract extension and a well-deserved promotion as Sporting Director to accompany his head coaching title.”

Bobby Smyrniotis was named Forge FC’s first-ever Technical Director and Head Coach on October 1, 2018. Under his leadership, Forge FC has made four consecutive Canadian Premier League Final appearances being crowned Champions in 2019, 2020, and 2022. Smyrniotis also led Forge FC to become the first CPL Club to appear in CONCACAF League (2019, 2020, 2021) and CONCACAF Champions League (2022). Prior to Forge FC, Smyrniotis is best known for building Mississauga-based powerhouse youth soccer academy Sigma FC into one of the sport’s preeminent development programs in North America.

“I am excited and grateful to the Hamilton Sports Group, Bob Young, Scott Mitchell, and the entire ownership group for continuing to entrust me with the development of Forge FC’s vision and identity as a top-tier club not just in Canada, but across CONCACAF,” said Head Coach and Sporting Director Bobby Smyrniotis. “The passion and support of our fans is second to none and I am looking forward to carrying on the pride of Hamilton and continuing to build on the winning culture we have set as a club.”
