Jamshedpur FC’s Scott Cooper speaks after Chennaiyin FC draw!

Jamshedpur FC Head Coach Scott Cooper faced the media after a great comeback at the Furnace versus Chennaiyin FC resulting in a crucial point.

On the referee decisions & notable performance…

We made a slow start. We should have defended the corner better, we were too high in the zone. That was just poor positioning from the corner. The second goal, it’s one minute of complete calamity from a referee. There are two potential handballs in the box 30 seconds earlier, the ball goes down the other end. There’s a foul on Jitu, he falls onto the ball with his arm. Everybody thinks it’s a Jamshedpur free-kick because it was. The referee points the other way, they take it quick and score. So, in one minute, typifies ISL refereeing. That’s it in a nutshell. Referee can do anything he wants. It can cause all kinds of damage. I’m sure Owen will say the same things in my other areas too, like our goal. I’m sure he’s upset with the contact in the box. There are all kinds of things, there’s a penalty possibly on Alen at the end of the game. It’s all over the place. I speak to the linesman, you know what he does? He laughs. The linesman laughs like it’s funny. You approach him to ask him a question, without being obnoxious and aggressive, and he thinks it’s funny. So, I don’t know if the linesman is on the side of it. I think we showed good character to come back. I think we should have been coming back from 1-0. This is another example of why the league needs technology because you could take almost every goal in this league, or every denied goal, free kick, penalty, or red card, and have a look at everything. Maybe many of them would be reversed. You just don’t know what’s going to happen next, what they’re going to give. And they’re not accountable because there’s no technology to help them. The truth is, you don’t know what’s going to transpire next. So, if you looked at everything, the points, the table could look different. Positions could look different. And I can go through almost every game. It’s not always against us, it’s always for us. I know tonight it gives us a mountain to climb at 2-0. And they’re a difficult team to play against. They’re well-coached. They have two good centre-backs. They’re strong in the air. They have a good plan. There’s a good coach. They work hard for him. It’s not an easy team to come back. It’s a very hard task to come back against that type of team. So, I think we showed good character. There are some good performances by new faces today. We showed some quality on the left side. Komal came in and showed some enthusiasm. Imran came from the right, Len from the left. Chima came on and showed his pure strength with a performance that said, you must play me next game. Let’s be honest. We don’t need to hide it. It’s a type of performance that says, you must play me. I don’t mind anybody watching. You can expect to see Chima next game. Why would I hide that?

On his upcoming away games…

We have to take it one game at a time. We won three points tonight. So, do we have to be disappointed? Second half, we played well. We were strong and pushed the pace of the game. Our next game is away in Bengaluru and then at Hyderabad and back to Odisha. It’s a tough task for us. We need to collect more points but at least we’ve stopped the lost strategy. We’ve got a lot of options and we got to strike. We’re still lacking that little bit of class or quality which we just try and keep working on that balance. Let’s see what we can get game by game. We just need to focus on Bengaluru and not the next games. We just need to focus on our plan for the next game and carry on.

The attention for Jamshedpur FC now shifts to the Sree Kanteerava Stadium, where the Men of Steel will face Bengaluru FC on December 16.
