Manchester United & adidas launch new 2022/23 home shirt!

Manchester United and adidas have launched the club’s new home kit for the 2022/23 season. The iconic polo-collar design returns for the first time since 2015, when the latest partnership with adidas began.

With performance, comfort and the club’s heritage at the forefront of its design, the 2022/23 home shirt features a stylish patterned polo collar, which bears resemblance to some of the club’s most memorable kits throughout history.

It’s also a subtle nod to some of the club’s former greats, whose unique style on and off the pitch made their kit their own.

The authentic jersey is constructed entirely from Primegreen, which means it is made purely from recycled materials. Alongside the innovative Primegreen engineering, the jersey features HEAT.RDY technology, keeping the wearer cool, dry and confident.

HEAT.RDY regulates your body temperature by maximising airflow, wicking sweat away with ease.

The replica version of the 2022/23 home jersey features the same stunning design characteristics and offers similar benefits to the authentic version, thanks to adidas’ latest AEROREADY – KEEP DRY technology. This technology keeps you cool by managing the body’s sweat, keeping you dry both on and off the pitch.

Throughout the years, a number of United kits have featured polo collars, and many have cemented their status as cult classics. The collar is deeply rooted into the legacy of this great club, and so are many of the legendary players who have worn them too.

You see, jerseys are so much more than the sum of their parts. They’re moments in time and allow for memories to be made that are cherished forever.

Inspired by the club’s catalogue of great kits, the white collar features an evolved red geometric design, which references the symbolic ‘M’ detail which featured in the third kit from last season, and the famous ‘Snowflake’ jersey from the 1990-1992 seasons.

Exploring the design of the kit further, Inigo Turner, Design Director at adidas said, “The polo collar is synonymous with Manchester United. Turned up or folded down, it has played a starring role in many of the club’s biggest moments.”

“With such a rich history, we wanted to pay homage to some of the club’s most legendary kits and players, whilst capturing the essence of home brought into the present day with a new perspective on the strong visual identity and patterns that run through the DNA of the club.”

The new jersey also features a subtle tonal pinstripe pattern that has been engineered into the fabric of the shirt, and in a bold red colouring, stays true to the classic home jerseys from over the years. adidas’ iconic three-stripe detailing is situated across the shoulders, providing a simple and clean contrast.

The club crest sits proudly on the left side of the upper chest and is accompanied by adidas’ logo on the left side, with a TeamViewer logo at the centre of the jersey, and a DXC technology logo on the sleeve. The polo collar utilises a single button closure, and stitched seams on the bottom hem and sleeves offer a secure, comfortable and functional fit.

The new home jersey will be worn for the first time on the pitch when Erik ten Hag’s team play against Liverpool in Bangkok on Tuesday, July 12.
