Minerva Punjab FC’s Jarmanjit Singh has been called-up for the India Under-23 team selection camp!

After the recent good show of the Chandigarh state team at the Santosh Trophy, where Chandigarh reached the quarterfinals of the tournament after more than a decade, Minerva Punjab FC’s Jarmanjit Singh has been called to join the India Under-23 team selection camp at Mumbai.

The success of the Chandigarh team at the Santosh Trophy also shows the growth and strength of the I-League’s only representative from North India in Minerva Punjab FC as many of the clubs players participated in the Santosh Trophy as part of Chandigarh squad. And one player in particular caught the eye of the national selectors led by India U-23 Team coach Savio Madeira who were on the look out for strong centre backs to play in the India U-23 squad. Jarmanjit the 6’4″ physically robust stopper who hails from Taran Tarn, Punjab was exactly what they were looking for.

The All India Football Federation wrote to the Chandigarh Football Association, informing them of Jarmanjit’s selection in the India U-23 squad for the AFC U-23 Championships qualifiers to held in Qatar this July and have asked Jarman to report to Mumbai for the training and selection camp under head coach Savio Medeira. Chandigarh Football Association Honorary Secretary Surender Kumar informed Minerva Punjab FC of Jarmanjit’s selection.

Minerva Punjab FC owner Ranjit Bajaj said, “I am thrilled that in the short time of Minerva’s entry into the national fray, we have been able to make a mark of Chandigarh on the football map of the country. This club was set up to contribute local talent to national teams and we are very happy to be realising our goals.”
