Mumbai City FC & ATK Mohun Bagan to play out ISL League Shield!

All or nothing. Winner takes all. Judgement day. One could go on, but it seldom gets bigger than this. Mumbai City FC enter into the final game of the league stage of ISL 2020-21 and will face ATK Mohun Bagan on Sunday, February 28 at the GMC Stadium in Bambolim. At stake in this gargantuan clash is top honours in the league table with a chance to win the ISL League Shield and a historic group stage spot in the 2022 AFC Champions League.

After a winless run of three games, Sergio Lobera’s side fought back in the only way they know how to – scoring plenty of goals. The Islanders went a goal down early but fought back spectacularly to dismantle a hapless Odisha FC 6-1. Cy Goddard found himself among the goals for the first time, scoring his first career senior goal along with Bart Ogbeche who scored two thumping headers. The headlines, however, were stolen by Bipin Singh who scored a fantastic hattrick, becoming the first to score one in ISL season seven.

Table toppers ATK Mohun Bagan saw their five game winning run snapped by a resilient Hyderabad FC after the Mariners snatched a late goal to draw the game 2-2 with Manvir Singh and Pritam Kotal finding the back of the net. Antonio Habas’ side sit three points adrift from the Islanders on the table and will need to avoid defeat against Sergio Lobera’s side if they are to secure top spot in the league.

The message and the intention is clear – win. And should the Islanders secure their desired result, on the other side lies glory and a piece of history.

Hugo Boumous will continue to serve his extended suspension and will be unavailable for selection tomorrow alongside Vignesh, who picked up his fourth yellow card against Odisha FC.

Mumbai City FC head coach Sergio Lobera said, “We have arrived in good momentum to the final game, with confidence and excitement. I am very excited to have this opportunity for this club, for our fans and all the people who have made big efforts to achieve this.”

Striker Bartholomew Ogbeche added, “The togetherness, the brotherhood that we have here that has brought us this far. Now we have a very important game tomorrow. We’re confident we can get the result tomorrow and achieve something special this team has never achieved before.”

The game will kick off at 7.30pm IST and will be broadcast on the Star Sports Network, Disney+ Hotstar and Jio TV for all viewers in India.
