Dilmperis also highlighted the importance of the Kolkata Derby, calling it “one of the biggest and most historic rivalries in world football.” He emphasised that preparation, discipline, and confidence matter more than emotion alone. “We will respect our opponents, but we will play with courage and with the ambition expected from Mohun Bagan,” he said.
Before joining Punjab FC for the 2025–26 season, Dilmperis coached multiple clubs in Greece’s top tier and earned praise for shaping competitive squads despite limited resources. Mohun Bagan stated that his tactical intelligence, ability to nurture young players, and skill in maintaining harmony within the squad made him the ideal candidate to lead the team into the new campaign.
