One FC Schalke 04 first-team player tested positive for Covid-19 during Monday, July 19 round of rapid tests. The club are still awaiting the results of the PCR tests. The person in question, whose rapid test came back negative on Sunday, is now in quarantine. All other rapid tests were negative.
This afternoon’s training session has been cancelled. Team doctor and hygiene officer Dr. Patrick Ingelfinger is in contact with Gelsenkirchen’s health authority regarding further steps. Schalke 04 will follow all instructions given to them by the authorities.
Friday’s Bundesliga 2 season opener against Hamburger SV is currently not in danger. FC Schalke 04 would like to ask people to respect the privacy of the player in question.
