PreZero & RB Leipzig begin partnership for sustainability & resource efficiency!

Together for a sustainable future! Bundesliga side RB Leipzig and environmental service provider PreZero have started a new partnership in order to take responsibility together and to take waste management and resource awareness to the next level in the Bundesliga.

PreZero will become the ‘official supplier’ for the Red Bulls – the partnership will run initially until 2024. PreZero will advise RB Leipzig on innovative and forward-thinking ways of managing recyclable material. The first step will be purposeful and sustainable waste management in the Red Bull Arena, the RBL football academy and the club offices.

As well as on RB Leipzig’s digital platforms, PreZero will be seen in the Red Bull Arena, including on the proposed recycling receptacles.

At the same time, PreZero will support RB Leipzig with their expertise to help the club’s already planned projects in the area of recycling management.

In March 2022, RB Leipzig announced their sustainability model which focused on three key areas: social, ecological and economical responsibility.

A paradigm shift is necessary in order to enact sustainable change, including in sport. Sport’s, and in particular football’s reputation can make a significant contribution, set an example for the wider world and affect change in modern society. We are aware of our responsibility and will design our business activities in order to be as sustainable and socially responsible as possible.

The DFB-Pokal winners are tackling one of the nine essential topics with PreZero in and around the Red Bull Arena. The partnership will seek to sustainably manage materials and reduce waste.

In doing so, RB Leipzig are seeking to produce as little waste as possible whilst continuing to improve the rate of recycling as much as possible.

Oliver Mintzlaff, Chairman of the board of RB Leipzig, said, “Social, ecological and economic responsibility go hand in hand. Being a sustainable club is essential for us in order to be successful on the pitch and economically in the long-term. We have defined the topics of waste and waste management as crucial in terms of our ecological goals. We can still do a lot to improve on these things, especially in and around the stadium. We are therefore delighted and proud that we have found a partner in PreZero, that is competent in this field and that has already started on the first projects.”

The first sustainable project is already underway. The blue seats in the Red Bull Arena will have been completely replaced with new red and white seats made up of 90% recyclable material by the end of July 2022.

PreZero will, among other things, play a leading role in the recycling of old seats and will take care of their disposal.

Thomas Kyriakis, Chairman of PreZero, said, “We welcome RB Leipzig’s aims and we are delighted that the installation of the new seats has directly saved a lot of resources and C02. However, we are particularly pleased about the club’s desire to think even further in terms of recycling management. In addition to many other projects, we are well on the way to developing an innovative, resourceful concept for recycling the old blue seats. The old seats will be turned back into raw material for new things.”
