Olympique de Marseille have announced the signing of Ukrainian international Ruslan Malinovskyi from Atalanta Bergamo.
The 29-year-old attacking midfielder arrives in the Marseille city in the form of a loan with an option to buy following the success of his medical examination. He is the first Marseille recruit of the 2023 winter transfer window.
Born in Zhytomyr (Ukraine) on May 4, 1993, the player, trained at Shakhtar Donetsk, made his debut in the Ukrainian first division in August 2012 with PFC Sevastopol, before joining Zorya Luhansk the following season. In 2015, he signed for KRC Genk where he played 135 games (30 goals and 33 assists) in four seasons, and became Belgian champion in 2019 before joining the Italian Serie A the following summer under the colours of Atalanta Bergamo. In three and a half seasons, Ruslan played 143 games (30 goals and 24 assists) for the Lombard club and participated three times consecutively in the UEFA Champions League. He finished as the best passer in the Serie A in 2021.
Ruslan Malinovskyi has an incredible left foot, a formidable weapon that allows him to be very adept at set pieces and shots from distance. He is a very intelligent player who fluidifies the game and produces a large number of key passes per game. Ruslan will use his experience and high standards to integrate quickly and offer an additional offensive solution within the Igor Tudor coached squad.
