Second Division League: Minerva Academy & Mohammedan Sporting game ends 1-1!

Mohammedan Sporting - Minerva AcademyA 10-man Mohammedan Sporting Club rallied to hold Minerva Academy FC 1-1 in their final round encounter of the ongoing Second Division League on Thursday afternoon at the Sector 17 Football Ground in Chandigarh.
Minerva Academy took the early lead through Manvir Singh who slotted one past Priyant Singh in the 7th minute to put his side ahead.
Having suffered an early jolt, Mohammedan Sporting began pressing in numbers in search of the equalizer while in the process close chances fell for James Moga and Nagen Tamang but led by Kareem Omolaja Nurain the Minerva Academy defense stood firm denying the Mohammedan Sporting attackers on numerous occasions.
However, just when Minerva Academy were looking good to take their slender lead into the break, Mohammedan Sporting found the equalizer through James Moga who converted a spot kick in injury time to equal things at 1-1.
Mohammedan Sporting began the second-half on the front foot. The Subrata Bhattacharya’s (Jr.) side created some good chances through James Moga and Ajay Singh but poor finishing upfront and a red card to Moga in the 57th minutes dashed Mohammedan Sporting’s chances of winning the tie as the referee blew the final whistle with the score locked at 1-1.
The draw means Minerva Academy remain in second position with 12 points from 7 games while Mohammedan SC climbed up to third with 8 points from 6 games.
Mohammedan Sporting Club will now travel to Srinagar where they face LoneStar Kashmir FC on Sunday, May 8 with an aim for three points and to close the gap at the top of the table.
