Semifinal for CECAFA Zonal Women’s Champions League Qualifiers set!

It is action time as the CECAFA Women’s Champions League semifinals take centre stage this afternoon at the Nyayo Stadium in Nairobi, Kenya.

Simba Queens FC from Tanzania will take on Kenya’s Vihiga Queens FC in the first semi final in what promises to be a thriller.

Going into the knock out stage, Simba Queens topped Group A and were unbeaten, while Vihiga Queens started with a 4-2 defeat to in-form Commercial Bank of Ethiopia FC in Group B, but eventiually won their last two games.

Charles Okere Okoth, the Vihiga Queens FC coach says he is aware of the task ahead, but added that his players are well prepared. “We know Simba Queens are a good team, but we are also well motivated and prepared to take them on” added Okoth.

The Simba Queens FC head coach Ali Omar Hababuu simply says he expects better performance from his team than in the group stage. “We have what it takes to play better football and win. But this is a semi final and we must be very cautious,” added Hababuu.

The second semifinal match will pit high scoring Commercial Bank of Ethiopia against a Ugandan side Lady Doves FC who are yet to concede a goal in the tournament.

Fred Musiime, the lady Doves coach told Cecafaonline that although they respect the Ethiopian team, his players are ready to die-a-little for Uganda on the pitch. “My players are young, but very determined to win,” added Musiime.

His counterpart the Commercial Bank of Ethiopia FC coach Heye Birhanu Gizaw says they are aware what the semi final stage means and will treat the game in a different way. “We know Lady Doves is a strong team and we shall change our tactics against them,” added the coach.

The winner after the final on September 9 will qualify to represent the CECAFA region at the TotalEnergies CAF Women’s Champions League final expected to take place in Egypt in November this year.
