Sporting Director Carsten Wehlmann leaves Darmstadt 98!

Carsten Wehlmann is no longer the sporting director of the Lilies. The 51-year-old has terminated his employment relationship with SV Darmstadt 98 within the agreed deadlines on March 31, 2024. As a result, SV Darmstadt 98 has decided to release him from his duties with immediate effect.

Carsten Wehlmann said, “These have been eventful and exciting years and I would like to thank Rüdiger Fritsch’s Executive Committee for the trust they have placed in me. I will not forget the time, but will always keep it in my best memory. When I started here as sporting director almost five years ago, we were in a difficult situation in Bundesliga 2. After a few sporting milestones, I have come to the conclusion in recent months that it is time for a change after more than five years at the club. I’m keeping my fingers crossed for the Lilies that they will continue on the successful path of recent years and manage to stay in the Bundesliga.”

Darmstadt 98 president Rüdiger Fritsch said, “We would like to thank Carsten Wehlmann for his commitment over the past few years, especially in terms of squad planning and coach selection. Although his decision presents us with great challenges due to the timing in view of the upcoming winter transfer window, we have to accept and respect his decision. We wish him all the best for the future.”

On an interim basis, coach Torsten Lieberknecht, Michael Stegmayer, Head of Organisation for the Licensed Players Department, and Tom Eilers, appointed member of the Executive Committee for the Licensed Player Division, will be responsible for the squad planning, with the involvement of the Scouting Department.
