Switzerland & Gladbach keeper Yann Sommer becomes IWC Brand Ambassador!

A professional footballer with an impressive profile: Yann Sommer, who has been crowned Swiss Superleague champion with FC Basel four times in a row and has since played for German Bundesliga club Borussia Mönchengladbach, is now the new brand ambassador for IWC Schaffhausen.

Sport has always been a high priority for IWC Schaffhausen. Since 2005, the Swiss luxury watch manufacturer has joined forces with Laureus Sport for Good Foundation to support social sports projects and count many personalities from the world of sports among their brand ambassadors.

Yann Sommer is now joined by another top Swiss athlete known far beyond the country’s borders, “Just like the International Watch Company, Yann Sommer represents an international Switzerland abroad. We are therefore delighted to welcome the successful football goalie as a new member of our family “, explains Linus Fuchs, IWC Managing Director Switzerland.

“IWC is one of the best brands our country has to offer. I wish to one day achieve the same status as an athlete, and I am proud to be able to act as an ambassador for the traditional watch manufactory,” adds Sommer, who owns an IWC Big Pilot’s Watch (Ref. IW501001) with a stainless steel and black case Dial – one of the most iconic timepieces from Schaffhausen – wears on the wrist.

Sommer was born in 1988 in Morges in the canton of Vaud. At the age of 15, he was signed by FC Basel, where he signed his first professional contract two years later. From 2011 to 2014, he was Swiss champion four times in a row with the most successful Swiss club in recent years. As a result, Sommer switched to the German Bundesliga club Borussia Mönchengladbach. There he had a significant stake in the club record of Borussia Mönchengladbach of 18 unbeaten games in a row. Yann will represent Switzerland in Russia at this summers 2018 FIFA World Cup.

The 29-year-old impressed not only with his athletic performance, but also with his broader interests. Despite a tight schedule, the professional footballer is in the kitchen several times a week and runs the food blog “Sommerkocht” (www.sommerkocht.ch). In it he makes his cooking delicious with healthy and based on recipes of fresh and regional ingredients.
