VfB Stuttgart name squad for trip to USA’s Austin!

On Monday, November 14 morning VfB Stuttgart begin a week-long trip to the USA, forming part of the DFL’s internationalisation strategy for the Bundesliga.

VfB Stuttgart captain Wataru Endo will not be on board on Monday morning when the team depart from Frankfurt for Austin, Texas. Instead, the midfielder and his compatriot Hiroki Ito will be with the Japan national team at the 2022 FIFA World Cup in Qatar, where Borna Sosa will also be participating as part of Croatia’s squad.

Chris Führich (surgery on his collarbone), Waldemar Anton, Nikolas Nartey (both lacking a coronavirus booster vaccination; their status as recovered is not sufficient for entry into the USA) and Atakan Karazor (to remain in Stuttgart due to ongoing lawsuit) will all miss out. It remains to be seen whether Silas Katompa Mvumpa, who is carrying an injury, will be able to travel.

As a result, the VfB Stuttgart squad will include a number of talented youngsters: Lukas Laupheimer, Samuele di Benedetto and Leon Reichardt will all travel to the Texan capital and will take part in the wide-ranging programme of activities in addition to the friendly against 1. FC Köln. The VfB party will be led by board members Rouven Kasper and Thomas Ignatzi, as CEO Alexander Wehrle has to attend the DFL general assembly in Frankfurt next week on behalf of the club. VfB legends Cacau and Ricardo Osorio will also be present in Austin.
