The board of Mohun Bagan Athletic Club has approved the remaining of their football team from ATK Mohun Bagan to Mohun Bagan Super Giant as of June 1, 2023.
In 2020, ATK Mohun Bagan was founded as a merged entity of former ISL entity ATK and then I-League side Mohun Bagan AC. The majority stakeholder of the then newly formed entity was Sanjeev Goenka.
The principal ATK Mohun Bagan stakeholder and owner Sanjeev Goenka had said after the ISL-9 final, “It is a small announcement but a substantial one. From next month, ATK Mohun Bagan will be renamed as Mohun Bagan Super Giants. We were waiting for the (ISL final) win to announce it. This win offers an opportunity to make the information public.”
Interestingly at the time it was announced as Mohun Bagan Super Giants with an S, while now this S is missing.
