Bundesliga International & CANAL+ extend broadcast partnership in Sub-Saharan Africa!

Bundesliga International and the CANAL+ Group have agreed a renewal of its broadcasting rights deal with Bundesliga and Bundesliga 2 in Sub-Saharan Africa and Mauritius, extending the partnership until the conclusion of the 2027-28 season.

The deal ensures that CANAL+, which has broadcast the Bundesliga since the start of the 2020-21 season, remains the home of the Bundesliga for French-speaking fans across 48 countries of Sub-Saharan Africa (excluding South Africa) and Mauritius. In addition, CANAL+ also retains the right to produce broadcasts in both French and local language in selected countries.

Fans can follow the action from the Bundesliga, as well as the German Supercup and the all-important Bundesliga play-off matches that take place at the end of the season. In addition, the two organisations will work together to promote football at all levels as well as bringing the excitement of the Bundesliga even closer to fans throughout Africa.

Peer Naubert, Chief Marketing Officer Bundesliga International, said: “From Tony Yeboah and Jay-Jay Okocha, now to Eric Maxim Choupo-Moting, Sadio Mané or Sébastien Haller, the Bundesliga remains the place for world-class African footballers. We are the fastest growing league across Africa, with fans committed to following their local heroes in Germany.

“Off the pitch, we will continue to work closely with our trusted partner CANAL+ to deliver authentic Bundesliga Experiences to the fans watching week in and week out. This ranges from delivering the best possible viewing broadcast experience, to creating on the ground opportunities for fans to engage with the best of German football. This is how we ensure tangible connections with our fan base in Africa, bringing them closer to their favourite, clubs, players and Bundesliga Legends.”

Jacques du Puy, President of CANAL+ International, said: “We are happy to pursue our partnership with Bundesliga, a major league that is rich in African players and very much appreciated by our subscribers. Through the depth of our international and local sports rights and the editorial know-how of CANAL+, we guarantee them a unique football experience for several more seasons.”
