CONCACAF teams learn group stage fate for FIFA U-20 World Cup!

This Friday the Draw for the 2023 FIFA Under-20 Men’s World Cup in Argentina took place in Zurich where the four participating teams from CONCACAF — United States, Dominican Republic, Honduras and Guatemala — learned their group stage fate.

2022 CONCACAF Men’s Under-20 Championship winners United States were drawn into Group B where they will face Ecuador, Fiji and Slovakia.

Ecuador is a familiar foe to the U.S., as the two nations faced off in the 2019 U20 Men’s World Cup quarterfinals in France in a 2-1 victory for the South Americans.

Meanwhile, the U.S. will face Fiji and Slovakia for the first time in FIFA U-20 World Cup competition.

2022 CMU20 runners-up Dominican Republic will be making their U20 Men’s World Cup debut in Group D, as they take on Italy, Brazil and Nigeria.

Brazil are five-time champions of the tournament, while Nigeria have twice finished as runners-up.

Guatemala will be making their second appearance in a U20 Men’s World Cup and first since 2011 when they square off with host nation Argentina, Uzbekistan and New Zealand in Group A.

It will mark the first ever meeting in a FIFA U20 World Cup between Guatemala and their three group stage opponents.

CONCACAF’s fourth representative, Honduras, have been drawn into Group F with France, South Korea and The Gambia.

Honduras are competing in a U20 Men’s World Cup for a fourth straight time and ninth overall.

Honduras’ lone FIFA U-20 World Cup match versus France came in the 2017 edition in a 3-0 group stage win for the Europeans. Honduras will be facing South Korea and The Gambia for the first time in U20 World Cup play.

The 2023 FIFA Under-20 Men’s World Cup will be played from May 20 – June 11.
