DFL Deutsche Fußball Liga yesterday published the schedule for the Bundesliga and Bundesliga 2 fixtures for matchdays 19 to 23 of the current 2020-21 season.
Matches now confirmed in the Bundesliga programme include the top match between RB Leipzig – currently second in the table – and third-placed Bayer 04 Leverkusen (matchday 19, January 30, 6:30 pm CET), the Rhine derby between Borussia Mönchengladbach and 1. FC Köln (matchday 20, February 6, 6:30pm CET) and the “Revierderby” between FC Schalke 04 and Borussia Dortmund (matchday 22, February 20, 6:30pm CET). FC Bayern München’s participation in the FIFA Club World Cup in February as the winner of the UEFA Champions League also needed to be factored into the schedule that has now been set. Since the Munich club is playing two matches (Monday, February 8; Thursday, February 11) at the competition in Qatar between two Bundesliga matchdays, it will play Bundesliga matches against Hertha Berlin on the Friday before the Club World Cup (matchday 20, February 5, 8:30pm CET) and against DSC Arminia Bielefeld on the Monday after the tournament (matchday 21, February 15, 8:30pm CET).
In Bundesliga 2, matchdays 19 to 23 will include a number of duels between clubs that are currently in the upper reaches of the table. For example, Fortuna Düsseldorf will face Holstein Kiel on matchday 20 (February 8, 8:30pm CET), Hamburger SV will meet SpVgg Greuther Fürth on matchday 21 (February 13, 1:00pm CET), and Fürth will take on Kiel on matchday 22 (February 22, 8:30pm CET). Matchday 23 will see the Hamburg derby between FC St. Pauli and Hamburger SV take place (March 1, 8:30pm CET).
The next announcement of exact fixtures for the Bundesliga and Bundesliga 2 will be released provisionally in calendar week six between February 8-12.
