Mumbai City FC set to host FC Goa!

Mumbai City FC are all set to take on FC Goa in their upcoming fixture of the 2022/23 Indian Super League season. The Islanders will welcome the Gaurs to Mumbai for a highly anticipated game at the Mumbai Football Arena on December 1 with the action kicking off at 7:30pm IST.

The Islanders remain unbeaten after their first 8 games of 2022/23 ISL season. The attacking prowess of the Islanders has also made them the most prolific team in the league so far with 23 goals scored in those 8 games – the most by any team after 8 games in the history of the ISL. Des Buckingham’s side have won 5 games and drawn 3. Mumbai City FC drew 3-3 against defending champions Hyderabad FC in their opening game of the league season. The Islanders went on to register a deserved 2-0 win against Odisha FC, followed by a 1-1 draw against Jamshedpur FC at home. A trip to Kochi followed, winning 2-0 against Kerala Blasters, followed by an action-packed 2-2 draw against ATK Mohun Bagan at home. Their most recent games against Chennaiyin FC and Bengaluru FC and NorthEast United FC saw them register stellar victories. They won 6-2 against Chennaiyin FC away from home, which was followed up with a phenomenal 4-0 victory against Bengaluru FC at home. In their most recent fixture, they defeated the Highlanders 3-1 away from home to make it three wins on the trot.

FC Goa, under new leadership, have had a positive start to the season so far. The Gaurs won their first two games against East Bengal and Chennaiyin FC, 2-1 and 2-0 respectively, both of which were away from home. In their following game, they lost 1-0 to Hyderabad FC, which was followed by a convincing 3-0 victory at home against Jamshedpur FC. Carlos Peña’s side fell short in their next game to Kerala Blasters FC losing 3-1 away from home but followed it by a 3-0 victory against ATK Mohun Bagan. FC Goa come into tomorrow’s fixture off the back of a 2-0 loss to Bengaluru FC.

Coach Des Buckingham in the pre-match press conference talked about the team’s preparations for the game against FC Goa, “We prepare for every game to go out and try and win the game, but we know we’re up against a very tough and good FC Goa side, who will be trying to do the same to us, but as long as we keep trying to do what we’ve been doing in the last eight games and we continue trying to get better, that’ll be the thing that I’ll be looking forward to for tomorrow.”

Coach Buckingham was accompanied by midfielder Vinit Rai who spoke about his own form over the last couple of weeks, “I want to thank the coach for giving me an opportunity to start the last game. But for me, as long as the team wins, I’m happy because the most important thing is to get three points from every game. Whether I start or not is the decision of the coach. So, for me, it’s my job whenever I get the opportunity to step on the pitch, I’ll always try to give my best so that I can help my team to get the result from every match. ”

Buckingham signed off by saying, “I keep getting told it’s a derby match for us tomorrow, more so because of the proximity of the clubs. I think the fans creating these derbies and the rivalry is great but it certainly doesn’t affect the way that I want us to go about the way the team plays, especially In preparation for this game. If the fans see it that way and want to rekindle that here over the seasons we will surely look to perform and make them happy.”

The game will kick off at 7:30pm IST and will be broadcast live on the Star Sports Network, Hotstar, and Jio TV for all viewers in India.
