Goa Pro League: FC Bardez host Calangute Association in Bardez derby!

It’s the Bardez Derby, as FC Bardez play host to their neighbours Calangute Association in the Goa Professional League match which will be played at the Duler Stadium in Mapusa under the floodlights on Sunday evening.

FC Bardez have played two matches under the floodlights so far and both these games have ended as draws.

FC Bardez come into this match with a draw against Churchill Brothers and a loss at the hands of Salgaocar FC in their previous two matches. FC Bardez will be looking to get back to winning ways as they are currently placed in fifth spot having played 14 matches with 24 points.

On the other hand, Calangute Association won their match against CSM Taleigao and lost to Corps of Signals in their previous two matches. They will also be looking to get something out of this match to close the gap between themselves and third placed Dempo SC. Calangute Association are currently in fourth spot having played 15 matches with 28 points.

FC Bardez’s Myron Mendes was injured during the match against Salgaocar FC. Lanstan Afonso will also be out as he is injured, but except these two players, coach Armando Colaco will have everyone at his disposal.

Both the teams have played before on two occasions in the Goa Police Cup final where FC Bardez won 3-0 and in the Goa Pro League first leg match which ended in a goalless draw.

FC Bardez Striker Latesh Mandrekar said, “Tomorrow’s match is very important for us. We dropped points in games that we should have won, it was disappointing. It has dashed out title hopes. But we are ready for tomorrows match, it’s a must win for us.”

FC Bardez head coach Armando Colaco said, “We are still lacking the goals. We are playing good football. Calangute are ahead of us, but its still all to play for and will be a good match tomorrow.”
