The final fixture of the regular Mizoram Premier League-5 season saw a match of former champions as Aizawl FC come up against Chanmari FC at the Lammual Stadium in Aizawl.
As both teams were already assured of a place in the semifinals, Aizawl FC rested their first team regulars and fielded youngsters from their academy in their starting XI. Chanmari FC, on the other hand, opted to field a full strength team.
A young Aizawl FC began brightly and took the lead as early as the 6th minute when Ricky took advantage of a mistake from Chanmari FC’s Ugo. He switched possession to Brandon who whipped it in for Bright Middleton Mends to finish with applomb.
Aizawl FC threatened their opponents time and again and saw efforts from Brandon and Bright come close. While Chanmari FC did have their chances through Vanlalbiaa and MS Tluanga.
Youngster Remsanga doubled the lead for Aizawl FC with a magical effort from a right angle on the edge of the box leaving absolutely no chance for the goalkeeper.
Chanmari FC then had an effort from Malsawmfela saved but they would pull one back in the second half through the striker, as he would convert a penalty to give his side a glimmer of hope.
But it was not to be for Chanmari FC as they could not find a winner, while Bright Mends of Aizawl FC came close to find a third for his side.
Aizawl FC’s young fullback Jonathan was named the Man of the Match.
