ISL-3: Depleted FC Goa score 2-1 comeback win NorthEast United FC!

fc-goa-northeast-united-fcA depleted FC Goa came from a goal down to defeat NorthEast United FC 2-1 in their Indian Super League – Season 3 at the Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium in Margao on Friday evening.

Due to suspensions and injuries, FC Goa head coach Zico was forced to play a record nine Indians in his starting line-up with only four further Indian players on the bench, which highlighted to the full extend of problems of the Gaurs.

NorthEast United FC wanted to score in the first half fully knowing the extend of the problems of their opponents, but chances for Mailson Alves, Katsumi Yusa, Rowlinn Borges, a double chance for Gustavo Lazzaretti and Mailson, besides Nico Velez all were wasted as FC Goa had one good attempt in the first session through a Robin Singh shot, which went wide of Subrata Pal’s goal. At the break it remained goalless.

Things changed in the second session as Seityasen Singh scored for NorthEast United in the 50th minute of a Katsumi corner, but thereafter FC Goa came back into the game with Robin Singh scoring off a Romeo Fernandes assist in the 62nd minute to give the Gaurs an unlikely equaliser.

But FC Goa would soon lose Sahil Tavora for a second yellow card on the night and they had to finish with 10 men. But there was one last twist in the match with Romeo Fernandes scoring an unlikely winner for the Gaurs as he went past Subrata Pal to slot home.

For FC Goa it was a memorable victory for a mainly Indian team, but NorthEast United FC are in crisis with their fourth loss in a row, a match which they should have never ever lost.
