Bengaluru FC on the road again, set to lock horns with Hyderabad FC!

Simon Grayson and his Bengaluru FC side will look to return to winning ways when they make the trip to the GMC Balayogi Athletic Stadium in Hyderabad for an Indian Super League encounter against reigning champions Hyderabad FC on Saturday. The Blues, who began their season with 1-0 win over NorthEast United, were held to a 1-1 draw by Chennaiyin FC a week ago.

“I think every game is going to be different. In the Durand Cup, I have to admit they were the better team, they completely dominated that game. We’re disappointed about that, but sometimes you have to win football matches differently. I thought we defended really well, but we know we’ll have to do better if we want to beat them this weekend,” said Grayson, speaking to the press on the eve of the game.

The Blues rode on an own-goal from Hyderabad FC defender Odei Onaindia when the two sides faced off in the Durand Cup, with the Blues qualifying for the final in the process. Manolo Marquez’s side began their Indian Super League campaign with a 3-3 draw against Mumbai City FC, before a 3-0 win against NorthEast United FC in Guwahati.

“I think most of our players understand and know what it’s like to play against Hyderabad. Every away game is going to be something new. It poses a different environment, grounds and situations. I’m learning off the players before we go to some of these players. It’s going to be a tough game, and a tough place to go to and a challenge that we’re looking forward to,” added Grayson.

With six goals in the bag, Marquez’s side have scored the most times in the League so far (alongside ATK Mohun Bagan), with winger Halicharan Narzary chipping in with two goals and an assist. Grayson said his side will do well to stay compact and make the most of possession to take anything out of the encounter on Saturday.

“Like every game, I think this game will be won or lost in the 18-yard-box on either end of the pitch. We want to defend really well, keep the opposition out and when we have possession, we have to do well to score goals at the top end of the pitch. For large parts, we’ve looked solid defensively, but we need to be better in possession as a team. We don’t want to give the ball away too easily, because Hyderabad have some talented players, and when they get opportunities they can punish you,” said Grayson.

Kick-off between the Blues and Hyderabad FC is scheduled for 7.30pm on Saturday, October 22 and will be telecast live on the STAR Sports Network, Disney+Hotstar and JioTV.
