Mainz 05 name Bo Henriksen as new head coach!

1.FSV Mainz 05 have announced Bo Henriksen as the club’s new head coach. The 49-year-old Dane was previously in charge of FC Zürich and has put pen to paper on a contract until summer 2026 with the Zerofivers.

Henriksen began his coaching career at Brønshøj BK in Denmark, winning promotion to the second division in 2010. He was then in charge of AC Horsens from 2014 to 2020, overseeing the club’s promotion from the second tier to the SUPERLIGA in 2016. While at FC Midtjylland in 2021/22, Henriksen helped the team to a second place finish in the top flight in addition to lifting the Danish Cup. He then moved to FC Zürich in October 2022, with the defending Swiss champions sitting bottom of the Swiss Super League at the time. The team went on to secure safety in Henriksen’s first season at the helm and have since climbed back to the top of the table. The Swiss side are currently in third place and fighting for a spot in Europe. Henriksen had announced last week that he would not extend his contract at the club at the end of the season. The 49-year-old is now set to move to the Bundesliga to join Mainz 05.

Head of sport Christian Heidel said, “We undertook an intense analysis of the tough situation we currently find ourselves in to determine which type of coach and which style of play would fit best to us. This led us to Bo Henriksen, a coach that has managed to bring his teams together and get them to play a pragmatic, yet courageous and ultimately successful, brand of football several times already in his career. Bo is also a very emotional, honest and opinionated person, who exudes positive energy and will fit in perfectly at Mainz 05.”

Bo Henriksen will be officially unveiled during a press conference at the MEWA ARENA on Tuesday, February 13 at 16:00 CET.
